What's a typical day like?

They examine a patient's mouth, take measurements or impressions, and plan a crown, denture, or implant. They fit and adjust the device, then work with dental technicians and other dentists to make sure it works well.

How to get this job

After high school, study science in college, take the dental-school entrance test, earn a DDS or DMD, and get a state license. Then complete a three-year prosthodontics residency; a straight-through student may qualify in their late twenties.

Graduate degree or long training (preparation level 5 of 5)
