How much does a roofer helper make?

In the United States, roofer helpers may earn more as they gain experience, learn useful skills, or complete safety certifications. Pay can also vary by employer and location, and by overtime or seasonal work; more complex tasks may pay more.

Help roofers by performing duties requiring less skill. Duties include using, supplying, or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment. Construction laborers who do not primarily assist roofers are classified under “Construction Laborers” (47-2061). Apprentice workers are classified with the appropriate skilled construction trade occupation (47-2011 through 47-2231).

What's a typical day like?

A roofer helper carries shingles and tools up ladders, sets up scaffolds, and helps remove old roofing and install new materials. They also clean the roof and equipment, and may check that the finished roof keeps water out.
