How much does a bricklayer helper make?

In the United States, experience, useful safety or task certificates, and more complex masonry work can affect a helper’s pay. It can also differ by employer or industry, location, hours, overtime or night shifts, and seasonal work.

Help brickmasons, blockmasons, stonemasons, or tile and marble setters by performing duties requiring less skill. Duties include using, supplying, or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment. Construction laborers who do not primarily assist brickmasons, blockmasons, and stonemasons or tile and marble setters are classified under “Construction Laborers” (47-2061). Apprentice workers are classified with the appropriate skilled construction trade occupation (47-2011 through 47-2231).

What's a typical day like?

Helpers carry bricks, stone, and tools, then bring masons the supplies they need as they work. They may apply grout between bricks or tiles, wipe away extra grout, and clean tools and the work area.

U.S. helpers often learn on the job; a diploma may help, and employers may require safety training. Many start at 18 because 14–15-year-olds cannot work construction sites and under-18s cannot do hazardous tasks.
