How much does a carpet installer make?

In the U.S., experience, in-demand skills, and optional certificates can help installers earn more; pay also changes with the employer or industry and the local area. More complex jobs and hours worked matter too, and self-employed installers may earn differently from company employees.

What's a typical day like?

First they inspect and prepare the floor, measure and cut carpet to fit, then join the seams. They stretch it tight against the walls, secure and trim the edges, and vacuum up scraps.

In the U.S., no degree is usually needed: start as a helper or take a paid 2–4-year apprenticeship; math helps. Programs set age rules (federal standards allow entry from 16); check local license rules before contracting.
