How much does a dj make?

In the United States, DJs may earn more as they gain experience and build useful skills. Pay also differs by location and employer or event setting; many DJs are self-employed, and the number of bookings and hours they work can affect their total earnings.

Play prerecorded music for live audiences at venues or events such as clubs, parties, or wedding receptions. May use techniques such as mixing, cutting, or sampling to manipulate recordings. What's a typical day like?

Before an event, a DJ checks the client's music wishes, builds a playlist, and tests speakers and microphones. During the party, they mix songs, take requests, read the crowd, and announce what's next.

In the U.S., event DJs typically need a high-school diploma and learn equipment on the job; BLS lists no standard exam, license, or starting age, while O*NET lists an apprenticeship route. Practice speaking and hosting at school events.
