What does a hearing aid fitter do?
Select and fit hearing aids for customers. Administer and interpret tests of hearing. Assess hearing instrument efficacy. Take ear impressions and prepare, design, and modify ear molds. Excludes “Audiologists” (29-1181).
What's a typical day like?
They welcome clients, run hearing tests, and choose and fit hearing aids; some appointments include taking an ear impression. They adjust or repair devices, explain how to use them, and see clients again for follow-up.
How to get this job
US entrants usually need a high school diploma and supervised hands-on training or a hearing-instrument program. State rules vary; many require a license and exams, and some set age 18 as the minimum.
