How much does a engraver make?

In the U.S., pay can differ with experience, careful hand skills or computer/laser know-how, the employer’s industry, and location; BLS data show differences across industries and areas. Valued credentials and overtime or shift premiums can also matter.

What's a typical day like?

An engraver checks a sketch or computer design, prepares metal, glass, or plastic, then uses a hand tool or machine to cut tiny letters or patterns. They polish the piece and inspect the cuts with a magnifier or microscope.

U.S. engravers often start after high school in their late teens; a diploma or GED is common, though some jobs need less. They learn on the job for days to a year, sometimes through a registered apprenticeship; college is usually unnecessary.
