How much does a freezer operator make?

In the U.S., pay can differ with experience, useful refrigeration certificates, and the kind of employer or product, such as food manufacturing, cold storage, or industrial refrigeration. Location, local demand, responsibility, and night or overtime shifts can matter too.

Operate or tend equipment such as cooling and freezing units, refrigerators, batch freezers, and freezing tunnels, to cool or freeze products, food, blood plasma, and chemicals.

What's a typical day like?

They load products, watch gauges and thermometers, and adjust controls so a freezer holds the right temperature and speed. They record results, remove finished loads, weigh packages, and clear jams or frost.

In the U.S., a high school diploma or GED is usual, and many operators learn on the job, from a few days up to a year. For industrial ammonia systems, RETA’s entry-level CARO certificate is an option; it has no minimum experience requirement.
